In a piggy bank, there were an equally number of nickels and dimes.. Also the number of pennies were five less than three times the number of dimes.. If there were no quarters among the 85 coins, how much was saved in the piggy bank ? Thank you so much :)

Number of nickels=n, number of dimes =d, number of pennies = p (no quarters) p = 3*d -5 n=d Total: n + d + p = d + d + (3*d-5) = 5*d-5 5*d-5 =85 => d = 18, 18 nickles, 18 dimes, 49 pennies (total is 18+18+49 = 36+49=85, checks out) Now saved: 18*5 + 18*10 + 49 = 319, or $3, 19 cents. Check the numbers!
